China’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning minced no words in her press briefing today in responding to CCTV’s request that she comment on the recent trip to Syria by Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, his remarks about why U.S. troops must stay there, the Syrian government’s response, and this week’s vote in the House of Representatives on Rep. Matt Gaetz’s (R-FL) resolution calling for withdrawing U.S. troops from Syria. (Gaetz was not named.)
Mao Ning replied: “Since the U.S. began its illegal interference in the Syrian crisis, its military operations in Syria have taken away a large number of innocent civilian lives and caused grave humanitarian disasters. The U.S. has been criticized multiple times by the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic of the UN for indiscriminate attacks that may amount to a war crime.
