First China-Central Asia Summit Set for May—'Grand' Plans on the Agenda

This past week, invitations from President Xi Jinping for a China-Central Asia Summit in May, went out to the leaders of the five Central Asia nations—Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. In their greetings, they included best wishes on the holiday of Nowruz, Persian New Year, and prospects for furthering a future of mutual benefit.

Xi said in the invitation, he is “eager to discuss a grand plan to develop relations between China and the Central Asian nations,” according to Tajik media accounts. Turkmen media reported the exact message from Xi to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
