While the Greek government of Prime Minister Kyriokos Mitsotakis continues its clumsy and immoral ‘damage control’ campaign, the rage in the Greek public over the disaster of the train collision continues. Now the public sector union, ADEDY, has announced a mass protest rally in central Athens at 12:30 on Wednesday. Importantly, they will not only be protesting the government’s responsibility for the horrendous train crash but will be calling for the end to all privatization. The union said the strike is being held “to demand – together with all the workers and the people – an end to the policy of privatization, and that the real responsibilities for the murderous crime of the Tempi train crash be attributed to those responsible.”
Joining the nationwide strike and demonstration will be the Greek Primary Teachers’ Federation (DOE). They noted that “all teachers, together with parents and students, can demonstrate our power and our determination not to remain silent, and to demand that responsibilities be identified without compromises and cover-ups of the truth.”
Meanwhile, the Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO) announced a 24-hour strike to be held on the same day, to hold the government’s feet to the fire, in carrying out an honest investigation. The railway workers also announced that they will continue their strike into Wednesday, according to the Athens Macedonian News Agency.
