Rafael Grossi, the executive director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), doubled down on his statement made over the weekend, that military strikes against nuclear facilities are illegal under international law. “I wouldn’t comment, of course, on what the prime minister of Israel would say about me,” he said when asked about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s outburst against him earlier yesterday. “There is nothing new really in what I said. I reiterated international law.”
During his weekly cabinet meeting, Netanyahu had asserted the right to attack Iranian nuclear facilities in alleged self-defense against Iran’s nuclear threat.
