A major nationwide 24-hour strike is planned beginning on Sunday, March 26 and extending into March 27, that will shut down most transportation and shipping in Germany.

The Crisis24 website noted, “The United Services Union (ver.di) and the Railway and Transport Union (EVG) have called on transportation and municipal port employees to hold a 24-hour nationwide strike over pay on March 27. Airport, railway, bus, tram, subway, and highway workers are set to take part, as well as port workers.”

Strike action has been called for at multiple airports as well. Passenger and cargo flights are being suspended at the Munich airport today and tomorrow. No regular flight operation will be allowed at the Dortmund and Frankfurt airports on March 27. Additionally, hundreds of flights will be subject to cancellation or disruptions across several other airports. The strike will also affect U-Bahn, S-Bahn, long-distance trains, trams, buses, and the federal highway system.
