A “Russian-Indian Strategic Partnership for Development and Growth Business Forum” took place in New Delhi over March 30-31. It was addressed by the Deputy Chair of Russia’s State Duma Alexander Babakov, who said that a “new currency” will be presented at the BRICS Summit Aug. 22-24 in Durban, South Africa.
Babakov said “The transition to settlements in national currencies is the first step. The next one is to provide the circulation of digital or any other form of a fundamentally new currency in the nearest future. I think that at the BRICS [leaders’ summit], the readiness to realize this project will be announced, such works are underway.” He added that it would be pegged to gold and “other groups of products.” (https://thecradle.co/article-view/23132/brics-nations-working-on-fundamentally-new-currency-russian-official )
