Germany's Natural Gas Supply Unprepared for Next Winter

Germany will have to put up with further gas consumption restrictions or face a severe gas shortage if the next winter is cold, the nation’s Gas Storage Association (INES—Initiative Energy Storage) warned in a forecast published April 19.

The current level of consumption and the legal gas storage filling requirements would be inadequate in the event of a cold winter, INES warned. Currently, German gas storage facilities are required to be filled only to 40% by the end of January 2024.
