House Passes a Rise in the Debt Ceiling — but the Impasse Remains

Last night the US House of Representatives passed the McCarthy Bill to raise the debt ceiling, by a vote of 217 to 215. However, the Republican bill specified spending cuts, which President Biden has already stated is a deal-killer. He is pledged to veto the bill unless he gets a debt ceiling lift with no other conditions. So, the impasse remains.
