Iran's President Accepts Saudi Invitation To Visit Riyadh; Bilateral Relations Advancing Positively

Iranian First Vice President Mohamad Mokhber reported yesterday that Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has accepted the invitation from Saudi King Salman Bin Abulaziz Al Saud to visit him in Riyadh. No date has yet been given for the meeting, but Mokhber pointed out that “the main strategies of Mr. Raisi since the first day he was elected as President have been to improve relations with countries of the region,” the Tehran Times reported him saying. He expressed the hope that “good things” will come from the meeting.

Since the March 10 announcement in Beijing that the two nations had agreed to re-establish diplomatic ties, officials from both nations have been in close contact to follow up on the agreement. This past Sunday, April 2, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, spoke by phone to discuss the details of their upcoming meeting.
