When they met in Moscow yesterday, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko indicated that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed defense issues along with others on their agenda for the Union State. “Vladimir Vladimirovich and I, we had fundamental negotiations yesterday. We discussed classified issues. We paid more attention to issues of security, issues of development of the military-industrial complex and issues of defense,” Lukashenko said, during the Union State Supreme State Council meeting Wednesday, reported TASS. According to Lukashenko, the talks were fruitful and covered over a dozen issues.
Lukashenko also noted that NATO is building up its capabilities near the borders of Russia and Belarus. “They are especially concerned about the Kaliningrad Region,” he said. He said it is happening after the attempted economic blockade of the two countries ended in a failure. “The economy is self-sufficient,” Lukashenko said. “They didn’t succeed with the economy, and they are having to apply pressure militarily.”
