In mid-April Germany’s three remaining nuclear power stations will be taken off the net. In view of the planned massive increase of so-called “renewables,” an increased capacity of 25 GW is necessary to back that up with gas plants on standby, the government has calculated. That means that within 10 years, fifty 500 MW gas-fired plants will be built, which is impossible. Insiders say that everything is missing: building capacities of turbine producers, qualified personnel for the commissioning process, and engineers and skilled workers for the construction. In the end, the gap will continue to be filled with coal plants.
Furthermore, the regulatory agency Bundesnetzagentur has overestimated the capacity of French electrical supplies to Germany, which will be reduced by the increased number of nuclear power plants under maintenance.
