Vasily Nebenzia, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, said yesterday that when it comes to arms control, it is the US that is irresponsible. “Western countries have consistently promoted the concept of ‘responsible behavior’ and increased control over the circulation of weapons. However, the crisis that has been provoked by them in Ukraine has become a true show of the insincerity of their statements in support of international efforts to combat uncontrolled proliferation,” he said at the UN Security Council meeting about the risks posed by violating agreements on the supply of military products, reported TASS.
Nebenzya said that Russia has repeatedly pointed to the consequences of funneling weapons into Ukraine. “We note that regardless of the approaches of certain countries to what is happening in Ukraine, these risks are quite real and applicable to any other region,” he added.
