Swiss President Alain Berset refused to yield to the German request for re-export of Swiss weapons to Ukraine, in a meeting in Berlin April 18. Spain and Denmark had also requested that Swiss-made weapons be re-exported to Kiev. Berset explained that neutrality means that Switzerland does not support any side militarily in conflicts.. “We cannot be asked to break our own laws.”
Berset added that neutrality did not mean indifference. “Maintaining neutrality also means credibility. The international community must join forces for the benefit of the Ukrainian people,” he said.
