U.S. Bombers May Be Landing at South Korean Air Bases Soon

The upgrading of the U.S.-South Korean alliance into the nuclear realm may not just be made visible by the appearance of U.S. ballistic missile submarines in South Korean ports but also by the landing of U.S. nuclear capable bombers at South Korean air bases. The commander of the U.S. Pacific Air Forces, Gen. Kenneth Wilsbach, discussed the plan in an interview with Nikkei Asia Journal on April 27. “You might see, in the future and regularly, our bomber operations operating in and around the peninsula and perhaps maybe even landing on the peninsula,” Wilsbach said. “Those are some options that we have ongoing,” he added, referring to enhanced U.S.-South Korean air force exercises.
