Yemen-Saudi-Oman Meetings Point Way Towards Peace

On Sunday, the head of Yemen’s Houthi-led Supreme Political Council in Sana’a met with officials from Saudi Arabia and Oman to discuss a conclusion to the nearly decade-long war in Yemen.

The meeting was hosted by the Saudi Arabian ambassador to Yemen.

Reports from Al-Mayadeen indicate that an extended ceasefire, payments for government officials in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, and payments for the sale of natural resources were discussed. (Saudi-backed factions control most of the oil-producing regions of Yemen.)

The public basis of Saudi Arabia’s involvement in Yemen was the allegation that the Houthi groups taking over the country were a proxy of Iran.

The Oman-backed talks between Yemen leaders and Saudi Arabia have been progressing with the lull in combat, even after the official expiration of a ceasefire declaration back in October. https://consortiumnews.com/2023/04/10/saudi-delegates-visit-yemen-for-talks-with-houthis/
