Brazilian President Lula spoke with both President Xi Jinping of China and President Vladimir Putin of Russia in the last 72 hours – about peace, and about the BRICS, of which all three countries are members. On Friday, Sept. 26, Lula spoke with Putin at the initiative of the Brazilian said, and “shared his impressions of participating in the recent G7 summit (Hiroshima, Japan, May 19-21, 2023), and also outlined his vision of possible mediation efforts to find ways of resolving the conflict in Ukraine,” according to a Kremlin readout on the discussion. “In addition, they considered issues related to joint work within BRICS and other multilateral platforms.” The Kremlin reported that “the conversation was constructive and substantive.”
In a tweet yesterday, Lula reported that he had spoken by phone with President Putin. “I thanked him for the invitation to go to the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, and I replied that I cannot go to Russia at this time, but I reiterated Brazil’s willingness, together with India, Indonesia and China, to talk with both sides of the conflict in search for peace.” (https://twitter.com/LulaOficial/status/1662105504355610629 )
