Denmark Tries To ‘Plug Holes” To Support Ukraine’s Defense

Sputnik reported today that the “Danish Ministry of Defense said in a statement that it will allocate some DKK27 billion ($4 billion) on gear, equipment, buildings, information technology and personnel, and a further DKK11 billion on new investments, citing ‘the current geopolitical situation’ which needs ‘more resources’ to ensure present levels of defense.”

However, due to the dire situation of the Danish military, the intention to modernize its defenses and supply matériel to Ukraine may not materialize.

Citing unnamed reports, Sputnik notes that “none of the Danish Army’s regiments can muster full strength at present. The shortage ranges from ‘only’ a tenth to more than a third. The Navy is no better, where Arctic patrols have to be paused so that crews can rest or sleep since there are insufficient numbers to patrol 24/7.”

There has also been a great deal of attrition of equipment; barracks suffer from “severe personnel shortages and massive IT challenges.” (https://sputnikglobe.com/20230505/denmark-to-spend-billions-to-plug-holes-in-defense-meet-nato-demands-1110110013.html )
