Dmitry Medvedev Calls for ‘U.S Accountability and Compensation’

On May 23rd, former President of Russia and current Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev was taking questions from Russian media as he arrived in the capital of Laos, Vientiane. The Russian media present were: TASS and RIA. During the press conference, he was asked by Russian media “Do you think the U.S should compensate Russia for the destruction of Nord Stream?” Medvedev responded: “Not just for that damage, but recompensation, or at least the means for restoring Artyomovsk, Mariupol, and a ton of other places that were destroyed with their help, their support, with their money.” The reporter followed up that answer with: “And Nord Stream?” Medvedev responded “Yes, repayment there, too, but that is a matter of investigation and proof. A process not yet finished and that page not yet closed. They reject it in all forms. Although their arguments seem very unserious.”

During the press conference, Medvedev said: “In the West, there is no one to talk to about security guarantees. NATO is not serious about the threat of a nuclear apocalypse. NATO is mistaken in considering a nuclear conflict impossible since events can go according to an unpredictable scenario.” He then continued: “Moscow will not let Washington achieve its ultimate goal—the destruction of Russia. The United States must compensate the Russian Federation for the damage from undermining the Nord Stream and the destruction of Artyomovsk (Bakhmut) and Mariupol.”
