Kiev's CCD: Pay No Attention to What You Heard

Kiev’s “Center for Countering Disinformation” (CCD) weighed in today on the question that the May 13 Washington Post posed to President Zelensky that provoked his meltdown (see other slug). Again, the issue posed to Zelensky was whether the Pentagon leak, that he and GUR head Kyrylo Budanov had had a discussion about blackmailing the head of Russia’s “Wagner” military outfit, Yevgeny Prigozhin, was accurate. Here’s the full CDC treatment:

“The information published by The Washington Post about the negotiations of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine with the head of the Russian PMC ‘Wagner’ is beautiful — another informational ‘dump’ that can be used by propaganda in its own manipulations

“Such rumors spread by the mass media without any references are unverified and unconfirmed information, so they should not be trusted

“In wartime, the presence or absence of negotiations and real sources are not disclosed or commented on, so such a message is another way to gain resonance for the media

“Military intelligence uses every opportunity to obtain important information, but never relies on information from Moscow criminals

“Trust only sources of verified information”

End of story, according to the CDC.

But the report came from the Pentagon leak, not Moscow. Or is Kiev saying that “Moscow criminals” have penetrated the Pentagon? (And the “rumor” is “unconfirmed” because, when asked to confirm or deny, Zelensky melted down.) Is it not possible for Kiev, instead of invoking “Moscow criminals” at every turn, simply to look bad on their own?
