A Russian air group composed of two fighters and two helicopters on a mission to attack Ukraine were brought down over the Bryansk region. The suspicion was that the aircraft were brought down by air-to-air missiles in a so-called “air ambush.” If an enemy knows the time and the flight pattern of the mission, they can set up a situation where fighters can intercept and “kill” them. The only means of avoiding this is changing the flight pattern. A full investigation has not yet been done to definitively determine the causes of the crashes.
