Several parts of the U.S. are at high risk for blackouts over the coming summer months, according to a May 10 notice put out by the North American Electric Reliability Corp. (NERC), the federally related agency responsible for monitoring in the U.S. and Canada. NERC is due to release its 2023 Summer Reliability Assessment on May 17, but it issued an advance notice, as reported by Reuters.
The reasons for the blackout warnings include the reality that during peak times of extreme cooling demands, the grid cannot support the load.
