Vatican sources told TASS that a meeting has been requested by Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and the Pope usually meets heads of state or government who come to Rome to meet Italian government and state leaders.
Zelenskyy is indeed expected to meet both Italian State President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on May 13. Zelenskyy requested a meeting with the Pope a few days ago, too little time to have Secretary of State Cardinal Petro Parolin be part of the meeting, as Parolin is on a mission abroad. Secretary for Relations with States Archbishop Paul Gallagher will be there.
