Chinese Special Envoy for Eurasian Affairs Li Hui gave a press briefing on June 2 in Beijing, where among other things, reported TASS, he responded to a question from a Western journalist: “When I was in Europe, I invited my colleagues from European states to think hard about the root causes of the Ukrainian conflict.” Li gave his press briefing at the China Public Diplomacy Association in Beijing following his 12-day international tour, that included Ukraine, Poland, France, Brussels, and Russia, over May 15-26.
“They can all think hard and draw their own conclusions,” Li said. “You ask why Russia took such actions. I will answer you with one phrase, which my Russian colleagues shared with me…. They started the operation to protect the lives, property and security of the people of Donbass.”
