Pope’s Peace Envoy Cardinal Zuppi Will Refer Matters to His Holiness

Upon his return from Kiev, Vatican peace envoy Cardinal Matteo Zuppi was asked by the Bologna daily Il Resto del Carlino whether he found any new elements to discuss with respect to Zelenskyy’s May 13 meeting with Pope Francis. Zuppi confirmed what Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin had anticipated—that there are no new elements on the side of Kiev, but that “it was important to speak to each other and realize what was going on. We know one thing: peace and justice are like two Siamese twins who live beside each other and can grow only if they stay together. That is why we went there: to listen and understand what was going on.”
