On Tuesday, Sweden’s parliament voted up a new energy target, allowing the advancement of plans to build nuclear power plants. The requirement of becoming “100% renewable” was replaced with that of becoming “100% fossil-free” in the production of electricity, which is already 98% from nuclear, hydro, and wind.

Construction of at least two small modular reactors is under consideration by state-owned utility Vattenfall, as is extending the lifespan of existing reactors.
