The European Union’s European Commission has made it known that it has exhausted its EU budget, and called on member states to refund it. German Finance Minister Lindner said in Brussels, however, that Germany has no money left.
Die Zeit reported that “German Finance minister Christian Lindner sees no maneuvering room for extra German payments in the EU budget, The situation of the [German] budget is tense, the FDP politician said in Brussels. ‘In view of the necessary cuts in our national budget, we can presently cannot afford any extra contribution to the budget of the European Union'. Other member states are in a similar situation.
“The 2021-2027 long-term budget of the European Union is ‘fully exhausted’ due to, among other things, the high costs for supporting Ukraine. It is currently being reviewed and the results of the review will be presented on June 20,” reported Die Zeit.
