Yahoo News and Zero Hedge each reported that Ukrainian President Zelenskyy announced Thursday night, June 22, that he has signed a law banning import of any books or publications in Russian or Belarusian language into Ukraine. This law was passed by Ukraine’s Parliament in June 2022 and reported then; but Zelenskyy did not sign it, because of Ukrainian Foreign Ministry objections that it violated European Union law, as well as Ukraine’s Constitution, and would prevent Ukraine’s progress into the EU. Since then, concern for EU laws has apparently atrophied; it has become clear that nothing Ukraine might do in violation of them will slow down the EU/NATO drive to fast-track membership for the Anti-Russia. So, a petition on the presidential website got 25,000 signatures last month, which is somehow enough to let the Foreign Ministry forget its objection and Zelenskyy proceed to sign it. The next step would be Fahrenheit 451.
