China Holds International Conference on Basic Science

China has assembled 800 world-renowned scientists from all over the world this week, for the inaugural conference of the International Congress on Basic Science, to advance human understanding and establish links with scientists in other parts of the world.

“I hope that the conference will become an important bridge between China and the world in the field of scientific and technological exchanges, so that internationally renowned scholars can enhance their understanding of China,” said Fields medal-recipient Shing-Tung Yau, who chairs the newly created institution. “I also hope that young scholars and students will actively communicate with world-class scholars so as to set clear goals.”
