Netanyahu Got a Pacemaker Today, While Hundreds of Thousands March Against His Judicial Reform Bill To Be Voted on July 24

Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu had a pacemaker implanted today. There was debate over how the doctors could find such a small heart, or if the stone casing had to be chiseled away first. Bibi reports the operation was a success and he plans to be back on the job by July 24, Monday morning, to be present for the planned Monday vote in the Knesset on his controversial judicial reform bill.

Hundreds of thousands of Israelis took to the streets today in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and other cities, to protest the bill, which they see as a move toward formalizing the dictatorship of Bibi and his war-party associates, by removing the power of the Supreme Court to reject policies of the government deemed to be “unreasonable.” The bill is supported by opposition parties and by former top officials in Israel’s military, intelligence and security services, former chief justices, and prominent legal figures and business leaders amongst others.
