Talk of War and Peace—Putin Speaks Following Africa Summit

Following the Russia-Africa summit, Russia President Vladimir Putin spoke at a press conference July 29 where he commented on a number of issues. In regards to a question about any potential conflict with the U.S. in Syria, he said: “We are always ready for any scenario, but no one wants this, and on the initiative of the American side we once created a special mechanism to prevent these conflicts. Our heads of certain departments communicate directly with each other, have the opportunity to consult on any crisis situation. This shows that no one wants clashes.”

Regarding the special military operation in Ukraine, Putin said there have been no changes during the previous two days, adding that “I think this is due to the fact that the enemy has withdrawn its assault units to places where they are restoring combat capability. They have suffered heavy losses both in terms of personnel and equipment.”
