Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has declared that any military intervention in Niger is unacceptable. Algeria is Niger’s crucial neighbor to the north. In a television interview Saturday evening, Aug. 5, he said, “We categorically refuse any military intervention,” for it would be “a direct threat to Algeria… There will be no solution without us [Algeria].” He asked, “What is the situation today in countries that have experienced military intervention?” and mentioned Libya and Syria.
Dima of the Military Summary channel said Aug. 6, “if there are going to be military clashes with Niger, then the only normal, stable way Niger can be supported is through Algeria. But if somehow the Western countries can cut the Algerian supply road, then of course Niger will fall, so everything depends on Algeria.”
