U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland has appointed David Weiss, the current U.S. attorney overseeing the investigation into Hunter Biden, as a special prosecutor for the case. Garland said that Weiss had earlier told him the case had gotten to a point that upgrading it to a special prosecutor was necessary.
“Upon considering his request, as well as the extraordinary circumstances relating to this matter, I have concluded that it is in the public interest to appoint him as special counsel,” the Attorney General said.
