Aug. 11 EIR: "Humanity for Peace Rallies Around the World"

EIR Vol. 50, No. 31 goes to subscribers Thursday, Aug. 10. The cover photo is talk show host Garland Nixon, addressing the Aug. 6 Humanity for Peace rally in Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza in New York City.

The Editorial is “Scientists Call To Stop a New World War.” EIR welcomes this statement, initiated by Steven Starr and released July 31, and encourages its widest circulation.

This week’s featured Lyndon LaRouche piece is a reprint from 1980, “Why America’s Elite Is Failing Desperately.” In it, he discusses what he calls the “families, analogous to the collection of deities on the Mount Olympus of ancient Greek mythology,” who despite internal, sometimes brutal, factionalizing, “unite to save Olympus from outside intruders.”

“They [The families] wish to believe that they run the world’s affairs. Therefore, they cannot accept the notion that something could exist efficiently ‘in the world’ which embodies a higher-ranking authority and potency.”

“They must either change their policies profoundly, also undoing most of the institutionalized policies they themselves sent into motion, or the ‘success’ of those policies means the imminent doom of the ‘families’ themselves—along with a large part of the rest of the human species.”

In Section I, Actions for Peace:

• A report by Daniel Platt, “‘A Chorus for Peace’: Humanity for Peace Rallies Worldwide To Avert Nuclear War,’ on peace rallies around the world, on or around Aug. 6, the 78th anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Japan, focussing primarily on the one in Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza in New York City and the evening concert that evening featuring Mozart’s Requiem.

In Section II, Russia-Africa Summit:

• “Russia-Africa Summit Reflects Moscow’s Paradigm Shift Toward Global Majority,” by Daniel Platt and Cynthia Rush.

• Excerpts from the joint Africa-Russia declaration: “End Colonialism, Promote Sovereignty and Development.”

• A full transcript of the extraordinary remarks of Isias Afwerki, President of Eritrea during a meeting with Vladimir Putin at the Summit.

Section III, Schiller Institute in Strasbourg, begins with an introduction by Kevin Gribbroek to Panel 5’s science panel presentations. Included there is the text of the Resolution endorsed at the end of the conference, warning of the danger of thermonuclear war, demanding immediate negotiations to end the war in Ukraine, and calling for worldwide peace demonstrations August 6. There follows edited transcripts of three of those Panel 5 science presentations:
