Biden in Utah, Mixed Up on China, and Otherwise

Speaking at a political fundraiser in Utah yesterday, Joe Biden got his factoids remarkably wrong and mixed up, when he tried to back up his charge that China was a “ticking time bomb.” He talked about economic problems China was facing, saying it had been growing at 8% a year and now was down to 2%. The actual figures are 4.5% for the first quarter and 6% for the second quarter. (And understanding the situation in the world market with the collapse of consumption, Beijing is aiming at a 5% target for the year.)

Biden held forth against the Chinese government and Communist Party, “They have got some problems. That’s not good, because when bad folks have problems, they do bad things.”
