Despite U.S. pressure, Egypt refuses to send arms and munitions to Ukraine according to TASS today, citing the Wall Street Journal. Earlier this year, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin asked Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to send Ukraine artillery shells, anti-tank rockets, air defense systems and light arms. Austin did not receive an unequivocal answer, but later Egyptian sources made clear there will be no shipments.
Egypt has a substantial arms industry and even manufactures Abrams tanks under license.
