In his first visit since the two countries re-established relations, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian traveled to Saudi Arabia for a one-day visit, where he held talks with his counterpart, Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud, to discuss further steps on establishment of bilateral ties. Amir-Abdollahian’s visit follows the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Riyadh and Tehran, brokered by China in March, after seven years of no formal ties.
At a joint press conference Prince Faisal said that the Kingdom is keen to activate prior security and economic agreements that were suspended following the breaking off of relations. He also conveyed Saudi Arabia’s gratitude to Iran for its support of the Kingdom’s bid to host World Expo 2030. In addition, according to a report by Alarabiya, he conveyed an invitation for President Ebrahim Raisi to make an official visit to Saudi Arabia.
