Mexico Rains on Zelensky's "Peace" Parade in Saudi Arabia

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said in his daily press briefing yesterday that Mexico will not participate in the Ukraine “Peace Formula” event in Saudi Arabia, but will participate in a serious peace negotiation. The minimum requirement for that is that both warring parties be included. He stated: “If both Ukraine and Russia agree to seek a solution to achieve peace in this conflict, we will participate, if the parties in conflict agree and convene for that purpose. We do not want the war between Russia and Ukraine to continue. It is very irrational, people suffer a lot, people are dying, and the only benefits go to the war industry, the makers of weapons…. If the two countries are represented, then yes.”

Lopez Obrador added that, while Mexico may not attend the Jeddah meeting, it will continue to seek ways to put an end to the conflict. “The Foreign Ministry has this mission,” he said. “We have made a proposal to attain peace,” he said, which would include mediation by Pope Francis, the Prime Minister of India, and also the UN Secretary General. “Instability in the world, both economically and politically” caused Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, he stated, and expressed the hope that both countries would soon sit down at the negotiating table and arrive at a solution, the reporteindigo.com website reported him saying.
