"The Russians Are Coming! The Russians Are Coming!" Alaska Senators Exclaim

The combined Chinese-Russian naval flotilla that conducted maneuvers in the Sea of Japan and then headed out to the western Pacific is causing some consternation among Alaska’s senators, in a state which is just a stone’s throw from Russia.

“This is unprecedented in terms of the size and scope of this joint naval task force between Russia and China, working very closely together,” Senator Dan Sullivan told Fox News Digital in a phone interview on August 5.. “Whether you live in Alaska like I do, or on the East Coast of the United States, a very large surface action task force between our two main adversaries, probing very closely to United States shores is concerning.”

In response to the approach of the Russian-Chinese task force, the US Navy deployed four destroyers and a P-8A patrol aircraft. “So that is a significant improvement,” said Sullivan. “That’s a lot of naval power up here demonstrating American resolve.”
