US To Sell Weapons to Taiwan as to a Country

The Biden administration has approved the transfer of $80 million worth of US-made military equipment to Taiwan using the Foreign Military Financing program. The FMF program is normally reserved for financing military purchases by countries to which the US has accorded full recognition as sovereign countries. According to the Associated Press, this is the first time that FMF will be used for Taiwan, the implications of which “will likely infuriate China.”
