Chinese Students Attend Lecture by Astronauts in China’s Space Station

Yesterday, 2,800 lucky Chinese students participated in the fourth of the series of classes being given by taikonauts aboard China’s space station, the Tiangong, to young people back on Earth, Xinhua reported:

“During the 48-minute lecture, the astronauts introduced scenes from their work and life in the Mengtian lab module. They also demonstrated various interesting experiments in the microgravity environment, such as spherical flame and metal gyroscope experiments, and those showing the law of momentum conservation. They also explained the scientific principles of these experiments.”

Five different classrooms were hooked up to the broadcast, which included discussion between the taikonauts and the students. The one classroom mentioned in the report was at Beihang University in Beijing. The class series will continue, the China Manned Space Agency reports. “The Tiangong space station plays a pivotal role in science popularization and education,” Xinhua notes.
