COP28 is scheduled for October in Abu Dhabi, and the president of the conference is the CEO of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) of the United Arab Emirates, Sultan al-Jaber. The U.A.E. is increasing oil production, investment and sale, particularly to Asia, and the U.A.E. is a new BRICS member.
In May, 35 members of the U.S. Congress and a lot of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) demanded Al-Jaber’s appointment be “withdrawn,” in a letter to President Biden, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
