At the 78th UN General Assembly Tuesday, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said that the world is “undergoing a paradigm shift towards an emerging international order,” and underlined the need for new approaches to solve regional conflicts and tensions rather than those of “the old powers.” “Humanity is entering a new framework,” he said.
Raisi: “We find ourselves at a critical junction in history. The global landscape is also undergoing a paradigm shift towards an emerging international order, a trajectory that is not reversible. The equation attributed to the hegemony of the west no longer resonates with the diverse realities of the world. The former old liberal order… has proven to be failures. Now that global nations exhibit heightened relations and awareness, as non-western powers have emerged, there is a collective hope for the establishment of a novel and equitable world order.”
In opposition to the policy of “new east-west divides” and of “fomenting proxy wars,” Raisi said, “Iran extends a warm welcome to any hand that is extended in friendship, firmly believing that an independent and robust neighborhood presents an opportunity for the entire region.” He went on: “A stable and powerful neighbor is healthy for a stable region.” He referenced a number of the regional zones of conflict and tension in the region, and added that “the future prospects of the region can be secured through the cultivation of profound mutual political trust fostering extensive economic cooperation and establishing indigenous security measures.”
The Iranian President also called on the international community to come to the aid of Afghanistan following more than two decades of war and destruction. He said that Iran insists on an all-encompassing government with the participation of all Afghan groups, not one imposed from outside.
