Grayzone journalist Anya Parampil reported from her trip to South Africa that an interesting change of tone has come from the renowned American beast-woman, Acting Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland. During Nuland’s visit to the African continent last month, she appeared “demonstrably unprepared to grapple with recent developments on the African continent,” a South African diplomat told Parampil. Nuland had arrived in the wake of the recent military coup in Niger, which itself followed similar coups in Mali and Burkina Faso over the last two years.
“In over 20 years working with the Americans, I have never seen them so desperate,” the diplomat said. Despite her hawkish reputation, Nuland appeared “totally caught off guard” by the evident changes taking place on the continent. Parampil reported further that Nuland requested South Africa’s help in dealing with the regional conflicts, a request that was particularly touchy for the US, given its large military base in Niger.
