Dmitry Polyanskiy, Russia’s First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, replied to questions on X (Twitter) on Sept. 1 that the U.S.-led NATO’s ever-deeper involvement in the fighting between Moscow and Kiev is driving the world to war. “We have repeatedly warned that the situation is quite dangerous and there is a big risk of a direct clash between Russia and NATO,” Polyanskiy said, declaring that NATO “is already supporting Ukrainian forces by every means possible, except for direct troop deployment,” according to RT.
He told DDG Geopolitics that Moscow sees “many indications that there are some instructors, mercenaries” in Ukraine, pointing to some “strange messages” about the deaths of NATO officers and generals. “That does raise major suspicions,” he said, adding that “we cannot rule out that they [NATO specialists] are participating in certain actions in Ukraine.”
