Rwanda Signs Deal to Develop New Type of Research Nuclear Reactor

The Rwanda Atomic Energy Board (RAEB) signed a contract to participate in the development of a new type of research nuclear reactor with the German-Canadian nuclear technology company, Duel Fluid Energy inc.

According to a press release by the Duel Fluid Energy, the agreement was signed on September 12 and calls for collaboration in the development of a demonstration Dual Fluid nuclear reactor in Rwanda. The reactor is expected to be operational by 2026 and the subsequent testing of the technology is to be completed by 2028. The Rwanda government will provide the site and infrastructure for the project, while Dual Fluid is responsible for the technical implementation of the partnership.In addition Rwandan scientists will be given practical training in the field of nuclear technology. The reactor is based on utilizing a liquid fuel and lead coolant that could exponentially increase the performance of current nuclear power reactors.
