White House Issues Instructions to Media, How To Cover the Impeachment

A day after House Republicans launched an impeachment effort against President Joe Biden, the White House actually issued instructions to the news media on how to cover the matter.

On Sept. 12, U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) launched the impeachment effort by directing committees to open a formal inquiry into the allegations of influence-peddling and solicitation of bribes by the Biden family. Yesterday, a Biden senior adviser, Ian Sams, also a spokesman for the White House Counsel’s Office, instructed the New York Times, CNN, and others: “It’s time for the media to ramp up its scrutiny of House Republicans for opening an impeachment inquiry based on lies.” The impeachment effort, he wrote, should have “set off alarm bells for news organizations.” Sams attached a 14-page appendix of talking points for the media to adopt.
