13 House Dems Announce Resolution for an Immediate Ceasefire in Israel and Occupied Palestine

Yesterday, a group of 13 House Democrats presented a resolution urging the Biden administration to call for an immediate ceasefire and de-escalation in Israel and occupied Palestine, so that humanitarian aid and assistance can be sent to Gaza to save as many lives as possible.

The resolution, termed the “Ceasefire Now” resolution, was submitted by Rep. Cori Bush of Missouri, and co-sponsored by 12 other Representatives, including Rashida Tlaib (MI), Andre Carson (IN), Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (NY), Jamaal Bowman (NY), Nydia Velázquez (NY), Ilhan Omar (MN), Summer Lee (PA), and Delia Ramirez (IL), among others.

Stating that the “Federal Government holds immense diplomatic power to save Israeli and Palestinian lives,” the resolution resolves “that the House of Representatives—(1) urges the Biden administration to immediately call for and facilitate de-escalation and a cease-fire to urgently end the current violence; and (2) calls upon the Biden administration to promptly send and facilitate the entry of humanitarian assistance into Gaza.”

The resolution has been endorsed by a large number of U.S. peace, religious, ethnic, and other organizations, whose names are listed at the end of the press release issued by Representative Bush’s office.
