The 1,216-km Algeria East-West Highway has been under construction for the past 16 years, and has finally opened to the public. In collaboration with Tunisia as well as with China’s CITIC Construction, the highway stretches all the way from Algeria’s western Mediterranean coast at Tlemcen to the eastern coast bordering Tunisia at Raml Souk. The highway now allows citizens to travel across the country in one day on a trip that had previously taken three or four days.

Of particular significance, with this highway Algeria has become the first country in the Maghreb region of northern Africa to have an east-west artery, and it will be a major improvement economically.
