Americans Support for Ukraine Dropping, They Want a Third Party

The Chicago Council on Global Affairs conducted a survey, as reported by TASS, which shows the precipitous collapse in the US of support for Ukraine. The poll reported that a full 45% of respondents think that the military assistance given to Ukraine so far was “not justified.” This included 61% of Republicans and (revealingly) 29% of Democrats.

The results also point to the overall collapse in support for further military assistance to Ukraine. The support amongst Republicans for sending more weapons, which was 80% in March 2022 and 68% in July 2022, is now down to 50%. Democratic support has only dropped marginally, from 83% in March 2022 to 77% presently.

In a related development, a Gallup poll released Wednesday found that 63% of Americans think that “a third major party is needed,” because the Democratic and Republican parties are doing “such a poor job” of representing them. Republicans had the largest increase, with 58% now saying they want another choice, up from 45% last year. Gallup now reports that 47% of Americans say they would consider voting for a third-party candidate in next year’s presidential elections.
