At noon today, former Argentine presidential candidate Patricia Bullrich of the right-wing Together Let’s Change (JxC) coalition, announced in a press conference that she and her former running mate Luis Petri are now throwing their support to Libertarian lunatic Javier Milei of the Freedom Advances (LLA) party in the Nov. 19 runoff against Sergio Massa, candidate of the ruling Unity for the Fatherland (UP) coalition. Bullrich emphasized that she was speaking only for herself, not for the PRO party, of which she is the former chairwoman.
The alliance with Milei was arranged by mafioso ex-President Mauricio Macri, titular head of the JxC, who met with Milei on the evening of Oct. 22 elections to seal the arrangement. Macri spent the entire campaign before Oct. 22 flirting with Milei while pretending to back “his” candidate Bullrich. He and Bullrich are now the objects of rage coming from all the JxC member parties, whereas Milei is getting slammed by his supporters for allying with someone from the “political caste” he ostensibly abhors.
City of London weekly The Economist comments in its coverage of the Oct. 22 election results is instructive. This “election result is the worst of all possible outcomes” it lamented, as it could mean that “populist” Peronist Sergio Massa, who got 36.7% of the vote, might remain in power. But “the least bad outcome to hope for is that Ms. Bullrich … backs the Libertarian outsider.” The Economist suggested the with Bullrich and Macri’s support, Milei might be able to broaden his support among the center-right voters and “Argentina might conceivably have a chance to change its fortunes.”
